Getting to the
Great Stupa
There are several options for your journey to the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion.
Directions to the Great Stupa
Depending on what side of town you are travelling from, you can travel through Eaglehawk or Marong.

We’ve provided an overview with directions from both locations below.
Directions from Bendigo
(through Eaglehawk)
- From the Fountain in central Bendigo travel along the A300 (Pall Mall), past the Bendigo Visitor Centre, turning left at the second set of traffic lights onto the C329 (Chapel St).
- Chapel St will become Bridge St.
- Travel along Bridge Street and turn left onto Arnold Street.
- Arnold Street will become Holmes Street and then Sandhurst Road.
- Travel along Arnold Street, Holmes Street and Sandhurst Road.
- At the traffic lights at the end of Sandhurst Road turn right onto the B260 (Eaglehawk Road) and travel along Eaglehawk Road.
- Eaglehawk Road turns into Peg Leg Road. Travel along Peg Leg Road and turn left onto Allies Road (the Allies Hotel will be on your left and you will see a “Great Stupa” sign pointing you in the right direction).
- Travel along Allies Road and turn right into Sandhurst Town Road (there will be another “Great Stupa” sign to direct you).
- Turn left into the first driveway and follow the signs to “The Great Stupa”.
Directions from Melbourne
(through Marong)
- Take the Calder Highway/A79 towards Bendigo.
- Turn left onto the Calder Alternate Highway/A790 (to Marong/Mildura) at Ravenswood.
- Travel to Marong.
- Turn right once in Marong central (just after you cross the railway line). Travel along the Calder Highway/A79 heading towards Bendigo and turn left onto Allies Road (you will see a “Great Stupa” sign pointing you in the right direction).
- Travel along Allies Road and turn left into Sandhurst Town Road (there will be another “Great Stupa” sign to direct you).
- Turn left into the first driveway and follow the signs to “The Great Stupa”.
From both locations
Once in the driveway you will reach a fork in the road – turn right and follow the signs up the hill to the Great Stupa Exhibition Centre.

Catch a bus to the Great Stupa
Running three days a week, the Great Stupa Bus Service travels between the Bendigo Train Station and our Visitor Centre. We can’t wait for you to visit!
We’ve heard your calls, and we’re excited to introduce the Great Stupa Bus! This pre-booked service runs once daily, transporting visitors between Bendigo Train Station and the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion, with a return trip included.
Operating Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Fare: $12 per person (includes return trip)
Capacity: Limited to 11 passengers per day
Schedule
Pick-Up from Bendigo Train Station
- Location: Platform 2 – Across the walk bridge to the other side of the station.
- Departure Time: 11:00 AM
- Arrival at the Great Stupa: 11:30 AM
If you have pre-booked and your train is scheduled to arrive at 10:58 AM, the bus will wait for you.
Return Service from the Great Stupa
- Location: Great Stupa Car Park – Visitor Centre Entrance
- Departure Time: 1:30 PM
- Arrival at Bendigo Train Station: 2:00 PM
Enjoy at least two hours exploring the Great Stupa!
Important Information for Passengers
Pick-Up from Bendigo Train Station
Pre-booking is essential to guarantee your seat.
Book online in advance – if no bookings are available, the bus is either full or it’s too late to book.
If you miss the bus, call the Great Stupa immediately at (03) 5446 7568.
Accessibility: Unfortunately, the bus is not wheelchair accessible and has limited storage space.
Location Reminder: Platform 2 is across the walk bridge at Bendigo Train Station.
